Why we built this
Your mixes should never be held hostage
In April 2025, longtime BetterSleep users discovered that custom sound mixes they had built — some over years — had been moved behind the app's subscription paywall. Mixes people assumed they owned, because they built them, were suddenly inaccessible without paying $59.99 a year. The change wasn't clearly announced. It was reported by TheCoolDown and TheMarySue, and corroborated by hundreds of frustrated users across Reddit describing the same thing: mixes that took real time to build, gone behind a paywall overnight.
That's not a pricing decision. That's a trust decision. And once an app can move the goalposts on content you made, it can do it again.
Our structural promise
Driftmix doesn't store your mixes on our servers. They live in your device's local storage — full stop. There's no cloud account holding them hostage, no server switch we could flip to paywall your own creations, because we never have access to them in the first place. How is “forever” actually guaranteed?
Your mixes are saved in local storage on your own device — not on a Driftmix server. We never receive them, so there is nothing on our end to lock, restrict, or move behind a future paywall. It's not a promise you have to trust us on. It's how the app is architected.
Why Android only?
We're a small team and wanted to build one platform properly before spreading thin. Android is where we're launching first. An iPhone version is planned once Android is solid.
Will there be a subscription later?
Never for the features you already have. Your one-time purchase covers the full mixer, every current sound, saving unlimited mixes, and the sleep timer — permanently. If we ever release optional new sound packs down the line, those would be separate one-off purchases, not a subscription, and never required to keep using what you already bought.
When does it ship?
